Continue ops of Rapid Metro till Sept 17, says HC

The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday asked Rapid Metro, which had sent a closure notice to the government earlier this year saying it would not operate trains from September 9, to continue its operations till September 17, the day the court next hears the case.

“After lengthy arguments by counsels for the parties, the court has found that the dispute… may be resolved by negotiation for which they both would require some time and, therefore, the hearing of this case is deferred to September 17, and the order of stay granted on September 6 is also extended till September 17 midnight,” ordered the high court. On September 6, it had ordered Rapid Metro to keep running trains till September 9 midnight.

The court also clarified that till September 17, Rapid Metro would operate the corridor subject to reimbursement of insurance, operation and maintenance costs for this period by petitioners Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTCL) and Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).
