More women in fray for DUSU posts

This year, the Delhi University Students’ Union polls have ushered in a change by increasing the representation of women to over 30%. In fact, three of the four candidates contesting for the president’s post are women. Students from 52 colleges and departments will vote on September 12 to elect the DUSU panel.

After 12 years, National Students Union of India (NSUI), the students’ wing of Congress, has fielded a thirdyear student, Chetna Tyagi, for the president’s post. They had last fielded Amrita Bahri in 2007. The last woman DUSU president was Nupur Sharma from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 2008. In 2011, ABVP had fielded Neha Singh, but she lost to NSUI candidate Ajay Chikara.
